Let it rain, let it pour
I just don’t care anymore
Skies are gray from day to day
Since you’ve gone away
Hours come, hours go
Time seems to move so slow
All I do is dream of you
All the long night through
“Pitter patter” go the raindrops on my window pane
They fall with ev’ry tear
Through the trees I hear the breeze still echoing your name
For, in my imagination, you’re still here
See the clouds high above
Dark is my world without love
Till you’re mine the sun won’t shine
So, let it rain, let it rain, let it rain

I recall a Summer’s day
When you and I had strolled away,
And suddenly a storn drew nigh.
Seeking shelter from the rain,
We strolled along a little lane
And saw a lovely sight nearby;
‘Twas just a garden in the rain,
Close to the little leafy lane,
A touch of colour ‘neath skies of grey.
The raindrops kissed the flower beds,
The blossoms raised their thirsty heads,
A perfumed “thankyou!” they seemed to say
Surely here was charm beyond compare to view,
Maybe it was just that I was there with you.
‘Twas just a garden in the rain,
But then the sun came out again,
And sent us happily on our way
Surely here was charm beyond compare to view,
Maybe it was just that I was there with you.
Was just a garden in the rain,
But then the sun came out again,
And sent us happily on our way.

DAY 22: 10.02.11
Drought Relief Effort
w/ Gene Austin “Ridin’ Around in the Rain” (1934?)
& Norberto Gomez, Jr.
Another great find, an original crooner of crooners, Austin was born in Gainesville, TX. If I can find a decent version of “Let It Rain” then expect an even more applicable raindance to come.

I recall the night,
The stars were out of sight,
We were ridin’ around in the rain.
I asked her for a kiss,
She said she didn’t kiss,
We kept ridin’ around in the rain.
Then I held her hand
But she didn’t understand,
And it all seemed so in vain.
Then she answered yes
And I found happiness,
A-ridin’ around in the rain.
So don’t wait for June nights
And don’t wait for moonlights,
Don’t linger down in Lovers’ Lane;
Wait and pick a dark night,
A dark and stormy night,
Take her ridin’ around in the rain.
A penthouse, apartments, were all the same to me,
My sweetie was very discontented.
No chance for romance as far as I could see,
But now my sweetie has repented!
I recall the night,
The stars were out of sight,
Ridin’ around in the rain;
And I asked her for a kiss,
She said she didn’t kiss,
Kept ridin’ around in the rain.
Then I held her hand
But she didn’t understand,
And it all seemed so in vain.
Then she answered yes
Found happiness,
A-ridin’ around in the rain.
So don’t wait for June nights,
Don’t look for moonlights,
Don’t linger down in Lovers’ Lane;
Wait and pick a night,
Some dark and stormy night,
Take her ridin’ around in the rain,
Oh how they weaken in the rain!
